What Is Naturopathic Medicine?

naturopathic medicine

Naturopathic medicine treats patients with the belief that the body has an inherent ability to heal on its own. Physicians who study this field of medicine are known as NDs, or naturopathic doctors.

These doctors encourage patients to use exercise, proper diet, changes in lifestyle, and other natural therapies to improve the body's ability to heal itself. NDs design treatment plans using current medical science as well as natural treatments.

The goal of a naturopathic treatment plan is to restore health and treat disease. Naturopathic physicians believe that with the right assistance, the body can help restore itself.

The largest advocacy group for naturopathy in the U.S. is the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians. Their site can be found at naturopathic.org for more information on their approach to wellness and health.
